Prior to co-founding Mmathari Partners, Refilwe served as an Associate Partner at a private equity firm. Her earlier career includes senior investment roles at Botswana Development Corporation, Norsad Capital and Botswana Insurance Fund Management.

She has originated, evaluated, structured and executed investment transactions across multiple sectors throughout the SADC region, working with businesses at different stages of growth.

Refilwe brings extensive board and corporate governance experience across the reinsurance, healthcare, education and life insurance sectors and currently chairs the board of Liberty Life Botswana.

Refilwe holds a Bachelor of Applied Finance from Macquarie University in Australia, post graduate qualifications including Master of Science in Finance from Warwick Business School in the UK, Post-Graduate Program in Data Science & Business Analytics from McCombs Business School in the USA and a certification in Financial Modelling and Valuation Analysis (FMVA) from the Corporate Finance Institute.

She is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, executing, and monitoring investment opportunities, bringing more than a decade of end-to-end investment management experience across the Africa region.

Prior to co-founding Mmathari, Keboetswe served as an Associate Regional Representative at US-based impact fund manager Developing World Markets (DWM), where she was responsible for investments across Africa and the Middle East.

Before joining DWM, she held investment management roles at Norsad Capital, focusing on the structuring and deployment of private debt transactions throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. She has structured and managed debt, mezzanine and quasi-equity investments across all stages of the investment cycle. Her experience spans a diverse range of sectors and business maturities, from early-stage start-ups to mature businesses..

Keboetswe holds a Bachelor of Finance degree (first class) from the University of Botswana and is a CFA Charterholder.

Prior to joining Mmathari Partners, Phemo interned at Alpha Direct Insurance Company, gaining experience in data analytics and data-driven decision-making.

Phemo holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics of Finance from the University of Botswana and is pursuing the CFA designation and has successfully completed CFA Level I.

With a background rooted in financial mathematics and credit risk analysis, he specializes in looking past the numbers to find the true potential in every investment opportunity. Guided by a calm, analytical approach, he enjoys breaking down complex financial data into clear, actionable strategies that drive lasting value for our partners and communities.

Letso holds a First Class Bachelor of Science in Mathematics of Finance from the University of Botswana and is a Certified Basel III Professional, qualifications he uses to help portfolio companies navigate growth safely and strategically.

Theo is a Sustainability Professional with a background in environmental science, ESG strategy, and sustainable finance. He specializes in integrating sustainability into investment and business decision-making, with experience in ESG due diligence, regulatory compliance, and value creation. His work focuses on helping organizations manage sustainability risks while driving long-term commercial and environmental impact.

Theo has extensive knowledge of Botswana's environmental regulatory framework and international sustainability standards including GRI, SASB and TCFD.

Theo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science from the University of Botswana and several Professional certifications in ESG, sustainability, climate-related disclosures and sustainable finance.

Having worked in both the Accounting and Advisory divisions of Grant Thornton, Kenaleone combines technical accounting expertise with analytical and valuation skills.

She has participated in due diligence, business valuation and M&A advisory engagements, developing strong capabilities in business performance analysis and risk assessment.

Kenaleone is a Chartered Professional Accountant (ACPA) of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) as well as a certified Accounting Technician from AAT.

Tebogo previously worked for Norsad Capital providing administrative support and served as Reception Manager at Lansmore Masa Hotel.

Boago began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) before progressing to senior internal audit and risk leadership roles.

His experience includes the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) and Thito Holdings, combining technical audit expertise with strategic business insight.

Boago holds a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from the University of Botswana and is currently pursuing MBA (Final year) with the Quantic School of Business & Technology as well as being on his final level of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), UK.

His regional and international experience includes SADC tax coordination and leadership of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) in London.

He has served on several boards and committees including contribution to technical working committees at SADC, ATAF and the OECD.

Tutu holds Master of Tax Law from University of Sydney in Australia, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from University of Botswana and several professional qualifications including the BURS Leadership Development Programme and HM Revenue and Customs Senior Leadership Programme

Itumeleng has held senior leadership roles in both locally and globally including senior roles at Stanlib Investment Management Services, PwC Botswana, PwC United Kingdom and PwC United States.

He contributes board-level expertise in governance, risk management, financial reporting and compliance and has served on several boards. He currently serves on the board of SureBridge Insurance Brokers where he chairs the Audit and Risk Committee and as a member of the Remuneration and Nominations Committee and previously served as a Vice Chairperson of the ACCA Botswana Panel Committee.

Itumeleng holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (BCompt) from University of South Africa (UNISA), is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants, Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana.

He has held senior investment leadership roles including Chief Investment Officer, Fund Principal and Investment Officer, managed multi-billion Rand portfolios and advised on complex transactions.

He currently serves as a Director of an investment banking and fund management entity and as a Partner in a venture capital firm.

Bruce holds an MSc Finance & Investment from the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe, Bachelor of Business Studies (Honours) in Finance & Banking from the University of Zimbabwe and completed Mandatory FAIS regulatory certifications from the FSCA in South Africa.

Her expertise spans credit appraisal, restructuring, portfolio monitoring, distressed assets, governance and E&S risk management.

She has extensive board and committee experience in credit oversight, risk governance, compliance and investment decision-making.

Rosemary holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Business School in the UK, BSc. Financial Services from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in the UK, a Member of both the Associate of Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB) in the UK and the Institute of Directors of Zambia.

As Founding Partner of INVESTPIRE Trade & Investments Ltd., he advises investors and financial institutions on capital raising, due diligence, growth strategy and governance.

Johnny holds an MSc in Economics & Mathematics (Cand.scient.oecon) from the University of Southern Denmark.
